Find Your Unclaimed Child Trust Fund (Average £2,310)

Overview

If you were born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, the government opened a Child Trust Fund for you with free cash inside. Around 827,000 matured accounts are sitting unclaimed, averaging about £2,310 (roughly £1.9 billion in total). At 18 the money is yours to withdraw — and finding it is completely free.

How to Claim

1. Click the link on this page to use the official GOV.UK "find a Child Trust Fund" tool.
2. Provide your National Insurance number and date of birth (a parent or guardian can search for an under-18 using the child's details).
3. HMRC writes to you with the provider that holds the account (usually within 3 weeks of an online request).
4. Contact that provider to access or transfer the money once you turn 18.

• Born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, or a parent/guardian searching on a child's behalf.

Important Terms

• The government search is completely free.
• You can take control of the account from 16; the money is locked until 18, then it's yours to withdraw or move into an adult ISA.
• The tool tells you the provider, not the balance — the provider confirms how much is in it.

Tips

• ⚠️ Never pay a company that offers to "find" your Child Trust Fund for a fee or commission — the GOV.UK tool does it for free.
• No NI number yet? 16–17 year-olds can request one, and the tool still works without it in some cases.
• Even if you think you don't have one, check — most unclaimed accounts belong to people who simply didn't know it existed.
